    <name>Merchant's Incline</name>
<desc>The Merchant’s Incline is a wonderful way to walk up onto the Isle fo Portland with stunning views across the Harbour and Chesil Bank. Previously a gravity-operated railway, it’s now the South West Coast Path.

Follow the South West Coast Path signs from Portland Castle.

It’s a steep, long climb but a wonderful traffic free route. At the top, the Merchant’s railway line, which once transported stone on wagons pulled by horses, takes you on through the Verne Local Nature Reserve with views of the west cliffs and lots of wildlife to enjoy.</desc>
